El Paso was a remote frontier town until railroads arrived in 1881. The Railroad and Transportation Museum of El Paso recalls those glory days in historic photo displays. Its main attraction is the restored 1857 El Paso and Southwestern Railroad’s Locomotive #1, a rare example of a pre-Civil War steam engine.
