Native American history awaits at the University of Texas at El Paso’s Centennial Museum. Built during the 1936 Texas Centennial, the museum replicates the Asian architecture of Bhutan. The Museum’s permanent exhibits focus on the natural and cultural history of the Chihuahuan Desert region, ranging from Ice Age fossils and desert mammals to Native American craft traditions.

The Gardens were established in 1999 and are certified as a Texas Wildscape site. Visitors can see over 800 species of plants that are native or adapted to the Chihuahuan Desert.

The Centennial Museum and Gardens sponsor such events as lectures/talks, collaborative exhibits with other museums on campus or in El Paso, and annual events promoting the region's native plants.
